Today was a very fun day in first grade! Our theme for today was camp! We built forts this morning using blankets, desks, and chairs. Next, we heard stories about Arthur and Froggy going to camp, we worked in our Smarty Pants Camp booklet, and we wrote in our camp journals. Later this morning, we went on a nature hike, where we wrote down and drew what we observed. Finally, we created camp nicknames and shared them with our classmates! It will definitely be one of our most favorite memories of this school year!

Today, our class took a field trip to Legoland. At Legoland, we were able to see a 4D movie, ride on some rides, play in the indoor playground, play at the water table, and attend a class on force and motion, where we built our own tops out of legos! We are now Legoland Engineers!
See the pictures below of all of the fun we had! This week, it is a very fun week for our first graders. On Monday, we celebrated and learned all about leap day (see post below). Tuesday, we began our superhero week because we are learning the IR/ ER/ UR sound. We had a fun time making our Superhero masks! Today, we are celebrating our 120th day of first grade AND Dr. Seuss's birthday! We are now 120 days smarter! We made 120 day ties, read Dr. Seuss books, watched the movie "The Lorax", graphed goldfish for Dr. Seuss's book "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish", found a comfy reading spot and read around the room, did exercises in 120 seconds, drew what we thought we would look like at 120 years old, and learned about Dr. Seuss. Wow! That is a lot! Friday, the students are invited to dress as superheroes for their IR/ER/UR spelling test!
Today, our class celebrated leap day and did many fun activities! In the morning, we read a leap day book, colored leap day book marks, discussed leap day, and made leap day crowns. In the afternoon, we interviewed a fifth grade class (Ms. Jensen’s class) for leap day because the next time the first graders will experience a leap day, they will be in fifth grade. The first graders asked a fifth grade partner questions about fifth grade and what they were like in first grade. Next, they wrote a letter to their future fifth grade self, which I will hold onto until the next leap day and give it to them in fifth grade. Everyone had a great time!
